CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Komachi Onozuka
Canon: Touhou Project
Gender: Female
Age: Her exact age isn't given; it's somewhere in the centuries range. Physically and mentally, she pans out to somewhere between 19-22.
Suitability: n/a
Species: DEATH GOD
Canon Point: After the latest game, Double Dealing Character. She didn't appear in it, but she's up on current events.
World/Setting: n/a
History: Game profiles and background article from Perfect Memento.
Personality: The term "Edokko", while literally denoting someone raised in Edo/Tokyo, is also shorthand for a certain type of personality: a bit rough in speech, assertive, boisterous, cheerful . . . and greedy. Komachi is the Edokko type through and through, right down to her dialect. She loves to talk, especially to the ghosts she ferries to the next world; her "conversations" with them tend to consist of her talking their ears off while they endure in silence. She loves money; she uses coins in her attacks and is known to demand that ghosts she ferries cough up all the money they have as fare. If they don't (or don't have any to begin with), she dumps them into the river halfway. She'll then use her powers to make the river infinitely wide, so that the cheapskates can never reach the other side. This doesn't seem to be the result of a bad temper or anything, as Komachi is almost always good-natured. It's just the rules of the road (or river).
Her demanding greed, physical stature, and status as a death god all give Komachi an imposing image, but that crumbles a bit when one realizes how lazy she can be. Komachi claims that she simply works at her own pace, but her slackerdom is infamous throughout the lands of Gensokyo. During a huge influx of ghosts from the outside world, she didn't bother to work any harder in getting them to the other side, figuring that it'd all sort itself out in time. During a later incident, when Gensokyo's weather was being manipulated, she didn't do much to resolve it; instead, she more or less just wandered around to see what was going on.
Her typical excuse is that taking a little break will make her work better in the long run, but really, Komachi just doesn't want to work in the first place. As mentioned above, she does love money, but she loves not working even more, showing little attachment to her duties. Her ending in Scarlet Weather Rhapsody suggests that she doesn't care very much what her job in the bureaucracy of the afterlife is as long as it lets her make ends meet. Her boss, Eiki Shiki, even scolds her at one point for being so lacking in drive, pointing out that Komachi could be making a lot more if she took her work more seriously. Ultimately, when Komachi is actually inspired to get off her duff and do something, it's usually motivated by one of three things: it's something other than what she's supposed to be doing, i.e. an excuse to slack off; there's enough money in it to entice her; or she's trying to avoid making Eiki angry. Komachi, for all her failings as a subordinate, does at least appear to respect and like Eiki, but that's still not enough to overcome her inherent slackerdom.
Also, for all her cheer and laid-back behavior, Komachi is a death god, and this gives her a casual outlook on death that creeps into her speech--she tends to talk about it a lot in what most humans would probably see as very detached terms. It just ain't a big deal when you deal with dead people all the time!
Abilities/Weaknesses: Komachi can fly, because all Touhous can. She tends to attack by using coins as her "bullets," throwing them in elaborate patterns. She wields the familiar scythe, of course, but it seems to be mostly a badge of office. Her greatest power is the ability to manipulate distances, altering them without any apparent change to the actual space around her. For instance, she can make the trip across the river of the dead as long or as short as she wants; she can also move people away from or closer to her without them realizing they're moving. Finally, as a death god, she can perceive a mortal's remaining lifespan by looking at them.
Vulnerabilities-wise, she's about as susceptible to injury, intoxication, mind control, etc. as a human being would be.

Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Pretty okay, but she'll probably be displeased
Warnings:
As a ~death god~, Komachi takes a pretty cavalier attitude towards people dying and the whole subject of death in general, and thus tends to bring it up very casually. If that might bother you, let me know!
